October 2018

The Prez Sez:

Fall officially started in the Northern Hemisphere on September 22 at 9:54 pm with the Autumn Equinox.  Trees have started to change color and temperatures cooled down noticeably.
The pool season has officially come to an end. It was overall a great season and a lot of residents enjoyed the extended hours. A big thank you to the social committee and residents who contributed their time, not just organizing and helping with parties but also making sure the pool was clean and closed on time.
Building restoration is still in progress and in its final phase with installation of the end caps.
Issues with gutter cleaning in the past were detected and the contractor who is currently working on the buildings, will be asked for an estimate to clean the gutters before winter.
Landscaping has been a challenge this summer with the continuous rain storms we have been getting.  We are seeing a lot of plant and tree growth.  Fall pruning is scheduled to start soon.
Irrigation has worked out well with significant savings and less operational issues than in the past. The system was temporarily shut off due to the forecasted rain.
The Board agreed to get the mailboxes painted.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 15th.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Fall Season.

Phil Agatino, long time resident and former President of the Cedars, died peacefully at home Saturday morning, September 22 after a long illness.  Phil loved our little community and was a hands on president. We could call him 24/7 and he would help.  He had all phone numbers for electricians, plumbers, TV, snow removal etc. We will miss you Phil.  Rest peacefully.

Time for Winterizing!
I have noticed garage doors open for long periods of time. There are lots of little critters out there that are looking for a warm space to spend the winters. It is wise to keep the garage doors closed.
  • For our Snow Birds and residents who leave their units for long periods of time, please leave your thermostat on 58 degrees to prevent frozen pipes. Always turn off your water and drain the pipes.  Leave doors to laundry room, under the kitchen and bathroom sinks open so that heat will circulate.  Also please leave your key with a neighbor or family member who lives close and inform management of your arrangement.
  • Snow plowing starts after 2" of snow has fallen.  If it is a bad storm snow plowing will continue as long as needed. The walks and steps will be shoveled after the roads and driveways have been taken care of.
  • Please stock up on snow melt. Sunny days and Freezing nights makes ice.  Please be very careful.

Dear Readers,
This will be my last newsletter. I'm old and my computer is old and cranky.  I am not buying a new one.  I'm hopeful that our younger residents will come forth and carry the baton with new and fresh ideas.   Best wishes to all as I ride off into the sunset. Donna
